Crypto Reconciliation & Tax Reports for TY2025

Form 1099-DA Matching

Coordination between crypto tax report and tax return preparation

Our pricing for TY2025 compliance-only services is based on standard assumptions regarding transaction volume, data quality, and overall complexity. During the engagement, once all necessary information and records are received from the client, we perform a detailed review to confirm the actual scope of work required.

Because crypto activity, tax forms, and data completeness vary significantly from one client to another, it is not feasible to offer a fixed fee upfront in all cases.

Our starting price is based on a typical case of us spending about 8 hours (including 1099-DA matching) on crypto account reconciliation and about 4-6 hours on standard tax return preparation.

Additional fees may apply if the engagement involves high transaction volumes, complex crypto activity (such as DeFi, NFTs, lending, gaming, or foreign platforms), additional tax forms, multi-state or international reporting, prior-year clean-up, or incomplete or disorganized records. Any fee adjustments will be communicated transparently before additional work is performed.

For clients with cryptocurrency activity, we are unable to offer the Tax Return Preparation Only service option. Accurate reporting of digital asset transactions requires detailed crypto account reconciliation performed by our firm, including Form 1099-DA matching and validation of transaction data.

When crypto reconciliation is prepared by a third party or platform outside of our control, we cannot independently verify the completeness or accuracy of the data, nor can we provide tax defense or support in the event of an IRS or state inquiry related to crypto reporting. For these reasons, clients with crypto activity must engage either our Comprehensive Compliance plan or our Crypto Reconciliation-Only service in order for us to support their TY2025 crypto tax filing.

For clients using our Crypto Only service plan, we will not be able to answer any non-crypto-related tax questions nor help them with estimated tax calculation which requires consideration of the client’s overall tax situation.

The 2025 Form 1099-DA will report gross crypto sales only — not cost basis. When a crypto investor uses multiple exchanges and wallets, those numbers almost never reflect their true taxable gains or losses.

Most traditional tax preparers don’t have the tools or expertise to reconcile 1099-DA amounts to actual blockchain activity. Reporting the form “as-is”, or ignoring the mismatch, can significantly increase audit risk and often leads to overpaying taxes. That’s why accurate crypto reporting requires wallet-level reconciliation by a dedicated crypto tax specialist, and that’s where we can help.

Crypto Reconciliation & Accounting Cleanup for TY2025

Form 1099-DA Matching

Coordination between crypto tax report and tax return preparation

“Crypto Reconciliation and Accounting Cleanup” are limited, compliance-driven services performed solely to support crypto reconciliation, Form 1099-DA matching, and business tax return preparation.

These services include full annual crypto reconciliation, light bookkeeping support related to crypto and year-end adjustments, high-level analytical review of accounting records, and targeted year-end accounting adjustments as necessary. They do not include full bookkeeping preparation, ongoing or recurring accounting services, controller oversight, or a full traditional accounting workflow.

Any work outside this scope must be separately scoped, approved, and billed.

Our pricing for TY2025 compliance-only business services is based on standard assumptions regarding transaction volume, data quality, and overall complexity.

Once all required information and records are received, we perform a scope confirmation review to determine the actual level of effort required. Because crypto activity, accounting conditions, and tax filings vary significantly across businesses, it is not feasible to offer a fixed fee upfront in all cases.

Additional fees may apply for:

  • High-volume or complex crypto activity (DeFi, NFTs, staking, lending, gaming, foreign platforms)
  • Multi-entity structures or consolidations
  • Significant accounting clean-up or historical corrections
  • Additional tax forms, multi-state or international filings
  • Incomplete, inconsistent, or disorganized records

Any fee adjustments will be communicated transparently before additional work is performed.

In limited circumstances, a crypto business client may be eligible for Tax Return Preparation Only if their crypto activity has been fully reconciled by a qualified third-party crypto accounting provider that meets our firm’s requirements.

In such cases, we must review and verify the provider’s reconciliation methodology, reporting outputs, and 1099-DA treatment to ensure they are sufficient for compliant tax reporting. If these requirements are not met, or if we are unable to rely on the third-party work, we will not proceed with tax return preparation on a standalone basis.

Beginning in TY2025, Form 1099-DA reports gross crypto sales proceeds only — not cost basis. For businesses using multiple wallets, exchanges, and platforms, reported amounts often do not reflect actual taxable income.

Most traditional accountants and tax preparers are not equipped to reconcile these discrepancies. Reporting 1099-DA figures “as-is” can materially increase audit risk and often results in overpaying taxes. Accurate reporting requires wallet-level reconciliation by a crypto-specialized accounting firm, and that’s where we help.
